Blake Lively Goes From Fendi to Fake Nails

Blake Lively Goes From Fendi to Fake Nails

Blake Lively keeps warm in a fleece lined hoodie on The Town’s lunch break in Boston on Tuesday (November 2).

The 22-year-old actress recently talked about how different her role as Krista in The Town is from her role as Gossip Girl’s Serena van der Woodsen.

“[Krista] is a drug dealing Boston townie with a two-year-old child,” Blake told JustJared.com. “She’s a pretty dark girl, but she’s just made do with what she’s been raised in.”

And while she didn’t mind the break from her high-fashion wardrobe, Blake shared that one thing about playing Krista drove her crazy…

“I’ve been trying to make do with my acrylics – I hate them,” she told JustJared.com of her fake nails. “I’d had them on for, like, two months. I got to take them off for one week ’cause I was, like, I can’t deal with this anymore! I had to wear ‘em to the Emmys, too.”

Is Google Using Pilfered Maps?

The town of Argleton, England doesn’t exist, but you can search its white pages, look for nearby chiropractors and map a jog through town, because “Argleton” is on Google Maps. How’d the phantom town get there? Funny you should ask.

Google and its Dutch map provider told the UK Telegraph they have no idea how the fake town got onto Google Maps. “There are occasional errors,” a Google spokesman told the paper. But the paper points out cartographers often insert fake minor features like “trap streets” to catch people copying their work. If Google and its partner don’t know anything about the town, that leaves a possibility the Telegraph was too polite to bring up: Perhaps the data in Google’s maps was, itself, purloined from an offline source.

Time to start asking this Dutch company some tough questions, Google. Either that, or you can risk that some aggrieved British mapmaker might see the coverage of “Argleton” and starting asking the tough questions for you.

Weezer Create Their Very Own Weezerville For New Video

The clip for ‘(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To’ features an idyllic town full of Weezer lookalikes.

Over the years, the town of Piru, California, has stood in for countless frontier towns — Hazzard County, Georgia, and Bon Temps, Louisiana (a.k.a. the hunting grounds of Sookie Stackhouse’s vampire friends on “True Blood”), for example — in movies and TV shows, but it’s never been transformed into anything quite like this.

Earlier this week, Weezer and director Marc Webb, who’s helmed clips for Green Day, My Chemical Romance and the All-American Rejects, not to mention this year’s indie-riffic feature “(500) Days of Summer”), invaded Piru to shoot a video for “(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To,” the first single off their upcoming Raditude album. And they decided to turn the town into their very own kingdom, a place they’re calling Weezerville.

“Marc Webb has created a kind of ’50s small town for us to live in. We’ve christened it ‘Weezerville,’ and basically it’s just populated by the four members of Weezer,” frontman Rivers Cuomo told MTV News. “So we’re just hanging out, driving around, filling up our trucks with gasoline. Basically being guys, and that’s what Weezerville is like.”

There’s a distinctly “Pleasantville” feel to the place. The streets are clean; the sky is bright; the people — all of whom are doppelgangers of Cuomo and company (no word on whether Lil Wayne is a resident) — are polite. In fact, Weezerville is positively idyllic, until a femme fatale played by actress Odette Yustman (fun fact: She was in “Kindergarten Cop”) arrives on the scene. And things start to change.

“The idea of the video is really simple: It’s a town that’s made up of clones of Weezer. There are multiple versions of Brian and Patrick and Scott and Rivers, and they’re just going about their business, until one day, this woman shows up,” Webb said. “And after that, everything basically goes to hell.”

And while he can’t spill all the details of happens, Cuomo did say that fans can expect carnage … of the bloody, disfiguring variety.

“We all lose our focus, our concentration,” he laughed. “The next thing you know, accidents start happening.”

Justin Bieber Is Not From Around Here

Fifteen-year-old singer Justin Bieber has already scored himself a Canadian Platinum single, has a hit video (with a second on the way) and legions of fans. The attention has driven him from his hometown of Stratford, Ontario, to Atlanta, so that he can be closer to his mentor Usher and better focus on making his debut album My World. The transition has been dramatic for Bieber, who went from a small town with a population of under 30,000 to a city of millions.

Everybody knows about Atlanta, a city full of hot hip-hop (Jermaine Dupri, Outkast, Ludacris and Lil Jon all count the A-T-L as home), workmanlike baseball and Coca-Cola. But what about Stratford, Ontario?

Bieber’s hometown was originally named for Stratford-upon-Avon, the town in England that William Shakespeare called home. Not surprisingly, the biggest annual event in town is the Shakespeare festival, which actually attracts top-shelf acting talent (Alec Guinness, Judy Dench and, uh, William Shatner have all performed at the festival). Though it’s a small burg, Stratford has still produced a handful of other musical talents. In addition to Bieber, Stratford served as the hometown for world music singer Loreena McKennit and Richard Manuel, the late multi-instrumentalist for the Band. And it wouldn’t be a town in Canada unless it had a hockey arena, and the William Allman Memorial Arena is actually one of the oldest in the province and currently serves as the home of the Stratford Cullitons. (What’s a Culliton? Though their mascot is a Native American warrior, the team is actually named after a local construction company. Capitalism!)

Bieber is a long way from home (both physically and metaphorically), but he relishes the fact that he has a sudden worldliness to him. “I didn’t get to travel a lot before I did this,” he told MTV News recently. “So that’s a bonus.”

NEW YORKJay-Z returned to Madison Square Garden on Friday night (September 11) and left no question about who is running the Big Apple.

Diddy, Pharrell, John Mayer, Mary J. Blige, Kid Cudi, Santigold and Beyoncé were among those who joined him onstage at the “Answer the Call” benefit concert. The proceeds from the show will benefit families who lost loved ones in the 9/11 tragedy. The overwhelming guest spot of the night was, hands down, the first live performance of “Run This Town” with Rihanna and Kanye West.

Before performing the song, Jay addressed the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

“They believed that it would weaken us; they were sadly mistaken,” he said. “I saw the strength and resiliency that made New Yorkers New Yorkers. Now we stand here eight years later even stronger. This is our town. We run this town, New York City. New York City, we run this town.”

Rihanna started the record with the chorus but didn’t come to the forefront of the stage until after Jay’s second verse. Kanye brought the most energy, jumping off the stairs on a mini-stage where Jay’s Roc Boys band played.

During Kanye’s verse, Rihanna demonstrated West’s words. “She got an a– that’ll swallow up her G-string,” Kanye rapped, as Rih placed one of her hands on her posterior. “And up top, uh, two bee stings,” he said as the singer placed both hands on her breasts momentarily.

After the record, the three soaked up their victorious performance. Rihanna left the stage, but Kanye stayed to rock “Can’t Tell Me Nothin’.”

“Jay, can I do one more before I get outta here?” Kanye asked the Jiggaman. A unified yell came came from the crowd as he started “Good Life.”

“Answer the Call” started a little early. Jay was originally slated to get on at precisely 9:11 p.m., but he appeared around 9:05 instead. But who’s complaining? DJ Biz Markie warmed the audience up, spinning pop hits form the ’80s like Madonna’s “Holiday” and hip-hop classics like his “Just a Friend.” Some firemen in uniform were having fun singing, “Oh baby you, got what I neeeeed,” at the MSG concession stand.

Jay-Z Answers The Call In NYC

When it was time for Jay-Z, a huge video screen appeared shaped like the New York City skyline, with Hov’s band underneath on a smaller stage. Jay held court dressed in all black on the big stage.

“Empire State of Mind” was the opening number. Alicia Keys wasn’t there — you’ll have to wait for the VMAs on Sunday for that — but Jay did have a background singer with strong pipes.

“Is New York City in the house tonight?” he asked. The Brooklyn native then devoted his attention to one borough in particular. No surprise there.

“Brooklyn Go Hard” followed, with guests Santigold and Memphis Bleek hyping the situation.

“P.S.A.” and “Heart of the City” provided back-to-back adrenaline rushes. Kid Cudi came out next for Blueprint 3’s “Already Home.”

“They say that I’m in the way, they want me to sit with them,” Jay rapped, facing Cudi while Kid bopped and threw in ad libs. “But what they admitting is, they ain’t got sh– for him/ But really the fact is, we not in the same bracket/ Not in the same league, don’t shoot at the same baskets/ Don’t pay the same taxes, hang with the same bi—es/ So how am I in the way, what is it I’m missing?”

“We just warming up!” Hov said next. “You Don’t Know” followed, with John Mayer helping out on guitar. The Grammy winner then played a medley of familiar Jay-strumentals: ” ‘03 Bonnie and Clyde,” “Run This Town,” “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” and finally, when it came to riffs from “D.O.A.,” Jay did the entire record.

“I got a song for those people in a cave that attacked New York City,” Jay said further along in the show. “I want New York City to be with me on this one. For all those people hiding in a cave.

“I got 99 Problems, but a bi— ain’t one,’” he said next, leading into “99 Problems.”

Toward the end of the concert, Jay performed “Hard Knock Life” and had a moment of silence after. The chorus to BP3’s “Forever Young” was then played, while pictures of some of the victims of 9/11 scrolled up the screen on the stage.

“Make some noise for everybody who lost their life, so we could live ours,” Jay commanded.

The last song was “Encore,” with Diddy and Kanye coming back out.

“I done seen a lot of sh– in my life,” Diddy said. “But I never seen what happened here tonight. Make some noise for Jay-Z.”
