Ugly Betty Pinches Pennies

The fashion forward show, Ugly Betty, is feeling the chilly economic climate.

Vanessa Williams, whose wardrobe for character Wilhelmina Slater is historically expensive designer duds, says “With the economic situation what it is, we scaled down in terms of the type of clothing that we’re getting. There was a Naeem Kahn dress that went for $3,000, and they watched it and watched it and by the time we got it, it was like $800. So we are being mindful of the budget and waiting for markdowns on Ugly Betty.”

That being said, $800 isn’t exactly chump change and she’s still worn the likes of Rachel Roy, Giambattista Valli, Dolce & Gabbana and vintage Thierry Mugler. But saving money is both wise (especially for the show, whose ratings are in decline – don’t piss off the studio!) and necessary.

Times are tough!
